A fundraiser that will see children walk the equivalent of Carlisle to Singapore is aiming to raise funds for a toddler who needs life-saving cancer treatment.

Stride to Singapore was an idea set up by Carlisle resident, Anthony Nevison to get children involved virtually in raising money for Stanley Dalton. He has a rare form of cancer that can only be treated in Singapore.

The life-saving treatment will cost Stan’s family £500,000, which is why they have set up a Justgiving page to raise the funds.

Stan was in remission from T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in February, but his shocked parents were told last month that it was back for the third time.

Stanley’s parents, Georgia and Lee want to take him overseas for experimental CAR T-cell therapy, a form of immunotherapy that uses specially altered T cells to cure cancer.

Georgia said: “It would just mean everything to us if we could raise the money. I couldn’t imagine life without him.”

Anthony decided to get involved because he has a background in fundraising. He explained: “I thought about a platform where we can all do walks and cycle and I wanted to set some challenges for children, because not only is it raising money for Stan it is getting people out of the house.

“So I’ve set up the page [Stride to Singapore] and I’ve got people getting sponsor forms and we’re wanting to walk 6,796 miles in total.”

Anthony has been posting different activities like 'walk of the week' to try and get other children involved and clock up as many miles as possible.

He is also putting out incentives for the children who get involved. So far some children are close to hitting £1,000.

“I’m going to do a reward scheme for the children as well,” continued Anthony.

“If children do really well they’ll get rewards off local businesses.”

So far all those that have joined the scheme have managed to walk as far as Austria, and Anthony is extremely pleased with how it is going.

He said: “I think we’ll do it and I think we’ll get there.

“Some businesses want to sponsor different counties too, so when we hit a country a business will sponsor that.

“It should be fun for them too. I feel really good about seeing the children getting out there.

“I know some of these children normally sit in on computer games so it’s getting them out as well as helping Stan at the same time.”

Anyone that would like to donate rewards for the children can contact Anthony via the Stride to Singapore page on Facebook.
