ALL lanes have reopened on a major motorway after traffic was queued for six miles due to the emergency repair of two potholes.

The work was being done on the M62 westbound carriageway, between junction 29 (M1, Lofthouse) and junction 28 (A653, Tingley).

Two lanes (one and two of four) were closed at around 8.12am to allow for the repairs to be done, but lane three was also shut at 8.36am after a second pothole occurred.

Highways England said on social media website, Twitter: "We have had to extend this to a lane one, two and three closure due to a secondary pothole which has occurred in lane three.

"We are on scene dealing with the repair of both potholes and will keep you updated when all lanes are reopen."

All lanes did reopen at 9.08am.

Highways England said: "All lanes for pothole repairs now open and traffic running.

"We are continuing to monitor congestion in area."

The T&A's traffic page stated that cars and vehicles were queuing for six miles, with congestion stretching past junction 30 (Rothwell) at the height of the closures.

Travel time was at 30 minutes.

There were also delays on the M1 southbound carriageway, heading onto the M62.
