Film-lovers are in for a treat next month as an outdoor drive-in cinema comes to the city on a nationwide tour.

An entertainment provider will be hosting the Adventure Drive-In event at Carlisle Racecourse, on Durdar Road, between July 7 and 9 - to help keep families entertained during the coronavirus social distancing lockdown restrictions.

The films on offer include classics such as Dirty Dancing, Back to the Future, Knives Out, Joker, The Lion King, Groundhog Day and Walk the Line.

And for those that miss their weekly boogie, the event is also hosting in-car dance parties.

The "drive-in dance parties" will see passengers tune into club classics or 80s and 90s party anthems while enjoying visuals on its giant LED screen. The "club" experience will be topped off with a full light show.

The event will be run by Adventure Cinema, a company that specialises in outdoor film experiences at a number of venues for the last three years.

It hosted about 120 similar large scale events last year.

To ensure the safety of its customers, the firm said that a number of measures will be put in place to ensure social distancing, including having plenty of space between parked cars and entry scanned via registration plates on vehicles to avoid contact with staff.

Customers can bring their own food, snacks and drinks to enjoy from the comfort of their seats, with full view of the LED screens.

Ben Lovell, co-director of the company said: “We are extremely excited to launch our tour and feel that the drive-in offers the perfect solution for events when social distancing is required.

“We’ll be using our breadth of experience from the last three years within outdoor cinema creating a memorable experience for all those who attend.

“Not only do we have some fantastic movies to show, we also have music events that bring you the ultimate in-car party.”

Tickets cost £27.50, plus booking fee. To book or for more information visit adventuredrivein.co.uk.

The company says tickets will be refunded if the event has to be cancelled.
