A military charity is calling on people to send birthday cards to a veteran who is set to spend his 100th birthday in isolation.
Ron Cross, who served during the Second World War, will celebrate his 100th birthday on June 8 – just two days after the anniversary of D-Day.
His granddaughter, Amy Cross, and Blind Veterans UK have launched an appeal to help Ron celebrate his centenary birthday in style during lockdown.
Amy said: “We can’t have the 100th birthday party that we’d imagined for my wonderful grandad so I wanted to do something to make him feel less lonely as he celebrates in isolation.”
Ron served in the 79th Armoured Division during the war, he was responsible for landing tanks and clearing minefields during the allied invasion.
Birthday cards should be sent to MP Caroline Dinenage’s office at 167 Stoke Road, Gosport, PO12 1SE.
