Carlisle City Council is clamping down on licensees who flout the rules.
The city's Licensing Committee is warning licence holders action will be taken if they don’t comply.
At a virtual meeting of the committee, members were updated on a recent case involving a takeaway business. Following a review of the licence for The Pizza Base on Lonsdale Street, requested by Cumbria police, a decision was taken to remove the sale of alcohol.
An appeal was lodged by the licence holder and their legal representative offered a compromise. A self-imposed suspension of alcohol sales for three months was agreed for the shop to train staff and implement procedures for recording and verifying alcohol sales.
The premises, with all other late-night takeaways, will be inspected on a regular basis.
