THE Walton-farm-based Warm Welly Company has been supporting customers with kids at home during lockdown with a series of blogs with activities to do at home and lots of interaction with their customers on Facebook.

Activities have included an Earth Day Scavenger Hunt which proved to be popular on Facebook. But it is the actions of a Warm Wellies customer that have stood out for company owner Simon Wood.

Signs to respect the countryside have been created by one of their customers. Four-year-old Sam Carmichael from Morpeth has been enjoying the lockdown on their family farm. His Mum Jess has been creating lots of ideas for his home schooling – incentivised by a very agricultural theme.

Sam, who loves life in the countryside, has been practicing sentences for English and was inspired to write signs for the farm. With a little help from Mum, Sam created signs to encourage people walking by to respect farming life and the countryside. He created 12 signs including ones which ask for gates to be kept shut, dogs to be kept on leads and not to walk across the middle of fields which ‘squishes the crops’.

Sam also created a sign to thank farmers for what they do which has been shared on social media across the UK.

Jess Carmichael has been tagging the Warm Welly Company in her Instagram posts which were spotted by Welly Farmer Simon Wood.

Simon was very impressed with Sam’s signs – so much so that his company has launched a competition asking kids to create signs that helps people respect the countryside. There are categories for toddler, infant and juniors – matching their welly sizes for kids.

Sam and his Mum have been invited to judge each of the category winners who will all receive a pair of Warm Wellies.

Simon said “We had a great chat with Jess and it’s very clear that Sam is a real farmer. He loves his wellies because he looks like a farmer in them – and Jess said they really do a good job of keeping out the cold.

“Sam is in his element on the farm and also loves his holidays in the Lake District. We couldn’t think of anyone better to judge our competition and we’re looking forward to meeting him after lockdown.”

The competition, (launched April 29) asks for kids to design a picture that would make people think about being careful and respectful in the countryside. The pictures must be created on an A4 landscape piece of paper and posted on the Warm Wellies social media pages tagging @warmwellies and #warmwellies, no later than May 31 or emailed to sales@warmwellies.co.uk Entries will be judged by The Warm Welly team alongside Jess and Sam Carmichael, with the winner announced on Saturday, June 21 (Father’s Day).
