CUMBRIAN fire crews tackled a tyre fire on a silage trailer that threatened to spread to a nearby farm building.

Firefighters from Penrith and Wigton stations were called to the incident at 5.20pm on Thursday, near to Raughton Head.

The blaze had started in the trailer that was full of black tyres.

They were at the scene for about 90 minutes.

A spokesman for Cumbria fire and Rescue said there was damage to an adjoining farm building but fire crews worked to stop the fire from spreading.

An crew from the North West Ambulance Service attended and one person was treated for a smoke related ailment at the scene - they were not taken to hospital.

The spokesman added that the cause of the blaze was accidental and there was no suspicious circumstances.
