Two school pupils are taking on a challenge that will see them run over 100km to raise money for hospital charities.

Jordan Ion and Emma Jennings, are running the Great Solo Run to raise money hospital charities in particular the University Hospitals Birmingham Charity because they fund equipment, research and facilities to support patients and staff.

Jordan, who is a pupil at The Nelson Thomlinson School, Wigton, explained more about why he chose that charity.

He said: "They provide tablets so that patients can communicate with loved ones back home, which in these sensitive times, is crucial to sustaining a positive mental health."

Jordan has set himself the target of running 280km while Emma plans to run 100km, both within 28 days.

"We decided to take on a new challenge while trying to do something positive in a difficult time. We also wanted to show our support for the NHS and key workers who are working tirelessly to support their communities,"added Jordan.

Both Jordan and Emma started their challenge on May 11 and plan to finish on June 8.

When talking about how the challenge was going so far Emma said: "I'm feeling incredibly positive about the whole process. It is definitely a challenge nothing like anything I have previously done, but I am determined that both Jordan and I will achieve our goals."

Jordan continued: "The past weeks have definitely been a challenge with endurance as I've never ran this fan in consecutive days.

"However, I am still in good health to carry on.

"So along with Emma I am certain we will be able to finish."

So far over £200 has been raised which the pair are delighted with.

Emma said: " I’m finding it a fun challenge that is something different from my normal exercise routine. I have found the difference between swimming and running difficult to start with, but now I’m getting into the activity I’m starting to enjoy it along with the benefits and challenges it brings."

Jordan said: "Although running for consecutive days can be physically challenging, you get to know everyone else who exercises daily and the running community is always friendly."
