Children from a scouting group have been receiving items to help them continued their scouting.

1st Wigton Baden-Powell beavers have each been given a craft pack containing 25 different items, with a total of 250 individual pieces in each bag.

Group leader, Julie Bryceson, said: "Beavers have an online video sent to them each week, with an activity usually involving crafts. It became apparent quite early on that not every family had craft materials to hand and whilst all the crafts involve using items which would usually be thrown away, there is still need for extras."

The packs contained felt squares, pipe cleaners, pine cones, coloured lolly sticks, googly eyes, card paper, crepe paper and much more.

Mrs Bryceson continued: "Due to the isolation rules I was cutting and counting things by myself, where usually all the beaver leaders would be involved. I couldn't understand why it was taking so long until I did a count up, I made up 65 craft bags and used a total of over 16,000 items."

Next on the list were cubs and scouts, who each received lengths of four different types of rope.

Mrs Bryceson added: "Cubs and scouts have online Zoom meetings every week and we run the meetings as much like our usual ones as possible, but obviously children have to use what is available."

A total of 90 rope bundles have been distributed and Mrs Bryceson hopes to obtain grant funding to allow her to purchase additional items to help children continue with their online scouting.
