Car parks in the city are set to start charging as government relax lockdown restrictions.
Free parking will still to be available to NHS staff, care workers and NHS volunteer responders involved in the coronavirus response in the council’s long stay car parks.
Workers are able to get parking passes are from their employer under government guidance.
This will allow them to park for free in all council long stay car parks when a permit is displayed in their vehicle. These are Castle car park, Sands Centre car park, Caldew Riverside car park, Viaduct car park and West Walls car park.
Customers are advised to follow social distancing guidance and if possible, pay by card or contactless rather than use cash and park in alternate bays. The majority of council car parks provide contactless payment options including credit/debit card, mobile phone using MiPermit, Apple Pay and Android Pay.
