Three Egremont siblings have raised more than £1,000 for NHS charities by running a marathon.

Twin sisters Isabella and Olivia Robson, 11, along with their brother Isaac, seven, set themselves the challenge of running a combined marathon over three days.

The children were inspired by Captain Tom Moore's fundraising efforts.

Captain Tom was knighted after he raised millions for NHS charities by walking lengths of his garden ahead of his 100th birthday.

The three children only aimed to raise £100, but now their total is up to more than £1,100.

Dad Joseph said: "When we went into lockdown they decided they wanted to do something.

"Previously they'd ran the Junior Great North Run and still wanted to fundraise to help others.

"The NHS has been vital in all their lives from caring for the girls in the Special Care Baby Unit to supporting Isaac with his autism."

The family has raised money before to give back to those who helped them.

In 2018, the twins ran to raise money for the Allerdale and Copeland Autism Support Group in honour of their little brother Isaac.

The girls, who say they love their little brother and help care for him, completed the 4km race in 26 minutes.

They hoped to raise £100 but ended up with £1,120.

In their latest challenge, the girls, who are pupils at St Bridget’s Catholic Primary School, ran both indoors and on a treadmill, while Isaac ran most of his miles indoors.

Joseph said: "With Isaac it was about engaging him in an activity like this.

"He's into Star Wars and movie logos so he dressed up and did his bit on the treadmill, so we used that to help him and he loved it."

Isaac is a pupil at Mayfield school.

Joseph and wife Charlotte said the positive comments received from the community helped encourage the siblings to complete their challenge last weekend, with them doing four miles each on the last day.

Joseph said: "They had a well deserved rest afterwards."
