Close on the fluffy tail of his brother from another mother, Reindeer Treacle celebrated his first birthday on May 13.

As we’re still under lockdown, Treacle celebrated with his nearest and dearest keepers who made him some ice blocks of his favourite treats – carrots!

Treacle was also sent a very special delivery from one of our supporters, Tracy, with his very own bags of birthday carrots.

We have two new arrivals this week – two Wood Duck Ducklings who have been rejected by their Mum. To give them the best chance at survival they are safely being kept warm under a heat lamp with minimal human interaction.

We’re keeping a close eye on them and when these guys are a little bigger and able to fend for themselves, they will return to our aviary to live their days as ducks should. Welcome to the world fluffy ones!

We still don’t know when we will be re-opening, but we are hopeful it will be very soon as we, and the animals, are missing you guys!

We have made headway on preparing for you all to be able to enjoy a socially distanced visit. Our Magical Maintenance Team have installed screens at till points, two metre standing points have been designated and we have implemented some one way areas on our narrower paths – all to keep the staff and visitors safe.

This week we must give a big shout out to our paw-some senior keeper Michael who has looked after the cats and carnivores for three years.

Last week, following the news that we are likely to be closed for a little while longer yet, Michael set up a Go Fund Me campaign, hoping to raise £3,000 which is what it costs to feed the big Cats and wolves for three months.

This was officially launched on Friday morning and less than 14 hours later Michael’s goal had been hit!

Michael is now hoping to raise funds for the 18.5kg of fish that our Humboldt Penguins and Giant Otters eat every day. Visit www.gofundme.com/f/feed-my-carnivores
