A SCHOOL that has been acting as a hub for the past eight weeks has been making videos to keep in contact with the pupils.

Both staff and pupils at Warwick Bridge Primary School have been submitting videos that were then edited together into one as a way of staying connected.

A number of different videos were made including cooking demonstrations, a handwashing video, and messages that were put together into one.

Warwick Bridge’s final day for the hub was Friday.

Headteacher Mark Ashton explained: “There’s no hub during the half term break and from June 1 it ceases to be.

“It has been really good. We’ve had an upsurge in the number of people coming here over the past week or so and they’ve come from all schools.”

The school acted as a hub for children in the surrounding area for eight weeks of the lockdown period.

The videos made by the school started with staff videos for them to keep in touch with the children.

“We as staff made some videos to keep in touch with our children and parents and the school community as a whole because it’s hard at this time,” continued Mr Ashton.

“As a school on the whole you are normally doing face-to-face stuff 100 per cent of the time, but we are now doing distance learning, distance communication and it’s nice to do something the children and parents can see.

“The staff sent in messages and then the children got involved, it was almost like they were sending messages to each other which they haven’t been able to do in a long time.”

Mr Ashton has also held weekly sessions on a Wednesday which gave children the opportunity to call up and speak to him about anything they wanted.

All of these initiatives by the school have been welcomed by pupils and parents.

Mr Ashton added: “The comments that we have had have been very well received. The parents have been appreciative that the staff have reached out to pupils and the children have loved it.

“It’s great to see the efforts by all the school community and we’ve had some fantastic work by the children.

“They have really taken the home learning onboard.”
