POLICE were called to a planned protest in Hexham late on Friday afternoon.
A dozen officers attended the incident, in the Springfield Road area of the town, at around 5pm.
"We are legally obliged to facilitate peaceful gatherings," said a police spokesman. "People did gather in the street and there was an air of protest. The event dispersed without any arrests."
He added that officers observed social distancing among those present, and reminded people of government guidelines regarding Covid-19, where appropriate.
