PLANS have been submitted to bring six new apartments to Carlisle City Centre.

An application for the first, second and third floors of 15 and 17 Lowther Street was submitted on May 4.

Carlisle City Council planners will now consider the proposals entered by London-based Ali Alqadhi.

The previous use of the site was for office space, with the application containing plans for six one bedroom apartments. No additional car parking spaces will be created if the application is approved.

The site was last used in 2010 and has an internal floor space of 320sq m. If approved, the flats would be located above the Bocata bar and Julie's Nails salon.

Number 15 and 17 Lowther Street are within the Carlisle City Centre conservation area and are Grade II listed buildings situated at the Lowther Street entrance of Lowther Arcade.

The existing access door to the upper floors within Lowther Arcade is to be retained as the main access to the proposed upper floor flats. There will be no change in appearance to the east or west elevation.
