We’ve done a lot of jumping related activity over the last few weeks, so it’s time to have a little change.

This week we’ll be testing out your balance and co-ordination. Ideally this one is to do with a partner, but if you can’t find anybody who’ll join in, we can partner up with a wall.

You’ll need a ball (ideally a tennis ball) and a wobble board like the one in the picture. Don’t worry if you don’t have this piece of kit – you can manage with a cushion or two. You’ll definitely need a ball of some description, though.

There’s no real warming up to do on this one, provided you’re not too mean to your partner. We start off standing two metres apart (social distancing, and it helps the activity). Start by throwing the ball gently to one another using your dominant hand (the hand you write with) around waist height. Once you’ve got the hang of catching it, try throwing it to each other with your non-dominant hand, and catching it with that hand. If you’re on your own, just throw it gently against a suitable wall.

Next stage – to make it more difficult – is to bounce it off the floor to each other. Again, start off throwing with your dominant hand and catching with it, then move to the non-dominant hand.

Once you’ve mastered that, you can introduce the balance element. Starting off, balance on one leg, and repeat the exercises outlined above. Then try it standing on a cushion, but be careful not to fall over! The ultimate stage is standing on one leg, on a cushion, and bouncing the ball to each other, catching with your non-dominant hand.

Give it a try and let us know how you get on!
