A Cleator Moor man has been jailed for 11 months after he attempted to climb into a woman’s window while she was handing him a dog.

Jordan Dobson, 28, of Greenthwaite, was jailed after he admitted breaching a restraining order preventing him from having contact with the woman.

The incident happened in Whitehaven on April 8.

Dobson also admitted battery following an incident on the same date.

Carlisle Crown Court heard that Dobson attended the Whitehaven address after he had been drinking.

Peter Barr, prosecuting, said: “The defendant started shouting at the woman repeatedly, she asked him to leave but he refused." Dobson then grabbed his victim by the shirt and ripped it, it was claimed.

The woman managed to run away through a neighbour’s garden and he followed her.

She eventually managed to lock herself in the house.

Mr Barr said: “They had a conversation about a dog he wanted, she opened the window to hand it to him and he tried to climb through the window.”

The victim then rang the police.

Marion Weir, defending, said Dobson and the woman had been in contact despite the restraining order and said their relationship had been volatile.

Dobson had breached the order previously on two occasions in 2019, however this was the first breach in 12 months.

Ms Weir said Dobson acknowledged that drink was a problem for him and had refused previous offers of support for this as well as bereavement counselling.

“He had attended the Building Better Relationship programme, he said it was difficult and he learnt from that.”

She added that Dobson had been working with his GP around some of his issues.

Judge Nicholas Barker said these offences had occurred while Dobson was subject to a suspended sentence as well as a community order, therefore he had no choice but to impose a prison sentence. He added the restraining order would also remain in place.

“You have showed that you are not capable of complying with court orders,” said the judge.
