AFTER face-to-face meetings for scouting groups had to be cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak, groups have found an alternative way to take on activities.

More than 100 beavers, cubs and scouts from a group in Carlisle camped from home as part of the world record breaking largest camp ever held.

Reivers District Scouts were just one of the group taking part.

Laura Cooper, district commissioner, explained: “The challenge was set to camp at home either in a tent or den for the night, of if they wanted, the whole month of April which severeal managed to do.

“Many also took part in the scouts fundraising as part of the BBC Night In event and ‘hiked to the moon’. Each young person was challenged to walk one mile and raise funds for Children in Need and Comic Relief and together with scouts across the county raised more than £330,000.”

“They’re having digital online meetings and challenges.”
