A Cumbrian choir has recorded a cover of Paul McCartney’s Love Song To The Earth to help raise funds for the NHS.

Twenty-one children from Cumbria’s Harmonic Minor choir, based in North Cumbria, worked remotely at home to record themselves singing on their phones.

The project was the brainchild of the choir’s director, Gill Wadeson, who wanted to give the children a project to work on from home to inspire and reconnect them during lockdown.

Gill said: “I wanted to help children in the choir, isolating at home, to reconnect with one another and give them something fun to do through music during the lockdown.

“It was to create a positive and lasting memory during such unusual and challenging times and raise whatever funds we can to say thank you to those helping usduring this time.”

The choir aims to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together and a JustGiving page has been set up for people to donate.

Gill was helped by Heavy Rain Sound Studio in Kendal, which put all the recordings together into the single track, giving it a professional studio finish

Gill said: “It was challenging to recreate a Sir Paul McCartney song from scratch remotely during a pandemic, but also one of the most honourable, especially to raise funds for the NHS.”

Naik Media, a video production company in Bowness-on-Windermere created the video with all the footage sent in by the children.

“We had such a brilliant time working with Gill on the project,” said Adrian, of Naik Media.

“The children’s work on this was incredible, and we hope the video helps convey the message and inspiration we felt upon hearing the song.”

Love Song To The Earth was originally penned and recorded by a collaboration of artists including Sir Paul McCartney and Natasha Bedingfield. It was written to inspire people across the world to urge leaders to act on climate change and on all matters to keep the planet safe.
