Supermarket workers and bus drivers will be able to enjoy a free burger or sandwich tomorrow thanks to the efforts of a former soldier, his family and friends.

Martin Clark, 34, of Bransty, has raised more than £17,000 from virtual fund nights, originally for family but now involving more than 150 people.

He has been spreading goodies and good cheer to key workers in Whitehaven and Workington.

Tomorrow, using Workington couple Simon and Kay Mattinson’s Sizzling Simon’s burger van, they will be parked in the Whitehaven Tesco car park from 7am distributing food to workers and bus drivers.

But to make sure nobody misses out, they have also collected staff numbers from Morrisons, Aldi, Iceland and any other supermarket open and will deliver food to them.

Martin’s #helptheheroes has distributed food parcels to doctors’ surgeries, care homes, the West Cumberland Hospital, and to the elderly and isolated.
