Young music star Logan Murphy a.k.a The Beatles Boy has expressed his admiration for 99 year-old veteran Captain Tom Moore through song.

Logan performed a rendition of David Bowie’s Space Oddity on Facebook Live, with a twist, changing the words from “Ground control to Major Tom” to, ‘Let’s all clap for Captain Tom.”

Tom Moore became the subject of national adoration last week when he completed 100 laps of his garden to raise funds for the NHS.

The fundraiser has so far raised £28 million making it the largest amount from a single fundraiser on the Just Giving website.

And he was saluted over the line by a guard of honor.

"It was Logan's tribute to him" said dad Lee.

The family have heard that the video of Logan's cover has reached Captain Tom after it went viral.

Lee said: "He's done what he wanted to do."

However, Logan is taking it one step further, setting up a fundraising page for NHS workers on the front-line of the Covid-19 relief effort and he is interested in getting his spin on the iconic Bowie song recorded.

"Someone in the music industry is looking at it.

Lee said that he wishes the fundraising page was attached to his live performance of Space Oddity as the original post alone topped the 10,000 views mark.

He added that they don't know how many people have seen the performance in total.

Logan is a familiar face on the local scene and he has been invited to play further afield including the celebrated Cavern Club in Liverpool, which his heroes, The Beatles made famous.

But the outbreak of the coronavirus has seen him go back to basics.

"It was just a one take live video in our living room" said Lee.

In his online performance, Logan said: "This song is dedicated to the 99 year-old Captain Tom Moore who raised almost £30million.

Speaking about his hopes for the captain to watch the video he said: "You sir are a hero, hopefully you can see this.

"He's done so much."

NHS staff have been expressing their gratitude for Logan's fundraising efforts. Lee said: "They've been sending him lots of nice messages on the page."

Logan is performing from the makeshift studio every week to keep his fans entertained through the nationwide lockdown. His latest performance of Beautiful Boy by John Lennon received almost 900 views.

Logan is also booked to perform in Cumbria's Virtual Festival on Sunday.

The gig will raise funds for Hospice at Home West Cumbria with Logan taking to the stage at 1.45pm until 2.30pm.

The bill also features Cumbrian acts such as Billy Walker, Just Steve, Miss Dee and Liam Moorhouse. For details on upcoming online gigs, follow Logan Paul Murphy The Beatles Boy on Facebook.
