THE News and Star is compiling a list of coronavirus community champions and we need your help.

Nominations have been pouring in from Hallbankgate to Carlisle, Wigton to Whitehaven, Longtown to Brampton.

People are eager to celebrate the key workers and community heroes in their towns and villages who are going above and beyond to look after residents during the pandemic.

We will be putting all of these names into a separate supplement that will highlight the people in Cumbria who were there for our communities during Covid-19.

Here are just some of the people our readers wanted to shout about:

  • Vicky Leathem, who is an intensive care nurse at Whitehaven West Cumberland Hospital.
  • Shelly Lambert, who is working long hours as a care worker at Parkfield Care Home in Carlisle.
  • Philip Ward, who is the manager and a recovery driver at Egertons Recovery in Penrith.
  • Andrew Callander, who is a supervisor at Bigrigg Spar.
  • Jacki Best, who works at The Heathlands Project in Carlisle.
  • Jamie Leigh Bibby, who is an NHS key worker going into the community around Workington and Whitehaven.
  • Ryan Leck, who is a shift supervisor at Eden Valley Mineral Water.
  • Maureen and Les Pratt, who run ABW Hardware Store in Brampton.
  • Fiona Sloan, who is a community senior nurse in the Carlisle and Eden district.
  • Kathryn Jenner, who works in a nursing home and is making masks for people in her community.
  • Mark Harkness, who is a counsellor at PAC Therapy.
