A prominent Carlisle manufacturer has been awarded one of the highest trade honours for its achievements.

Clark Door, based at Kingmoor Park, has been awarded The Queen’s Award for International

Trade.

The independent firm manufactures specialist doors for projects across the UK and exports to 45 countries.

It is a market leader in design, manufacture, installation and service of special purpose door systems for use in theatres, TV studios and warehouses.

Its laboratory tested and accredited sound proof acoustic and fire doors have been installed in buildings including DAICEC, Mumbai, India; King Abdul-Aziz Center for World Culture, Damam, Saudi Arabia; and the New National Museum, Oslo, Norway.

The company, which won two awards at the in-Cumbria Business Awards 2019 – Flying the flag for Cumbria and Best Manufacturer – employs 95 people.

It has achieved year-on-year growth in its exports since Andrew Ashley, managing director, joined the family-owned business in 2007.

He said: "We at Clark Door are immensely proud to have won The Queen's Award for International Trade.

"Working across the globe with products that push the boundaries technically can be a challenge with the need to meet local standards.

"Our engineering team has risen to these challenges and worked extremely hard to provide high performance door solutions to prestigious projects such as The Shed, Hudson Yards, New York and Royal Opera House, Muscat, Oman.

"It is an honour to receive this esteemed award, widely recognised as one of the UK’s most coveted business awards."

The company works with some of the world’s most eminent architects to develop new and innovative doors for projects around the globe.

Mr Ashley added: "While the last month has been a challenging time for many with coronavirus, this great news could perhaps not come at a better time.

"For our staff, suppliers, customers and local community, I hope this news will give us all a significant boost.”
