A takeaway has delivered food to staff of the West Cumberland Hospital as a thank you for their vital work fighting the coronavirus outbreak.

Abdul Karim runs the Chicken Hut takeaway on Duke Street with his family and he wanted to give back to NHS staff who are on the frontline of the fight against Covid-19.

The takeaway is currently closed until government measures are relaxed but the staff got into the kitchen to make food for those on the frontline of the outbreak.

Food was donated with a contactless delivery to the hospital on Tuesday March 31.

Mr Karim said: “We think the hospital staff are doing tremendous work at this time. It’s something from our side as a business in Whitehaven.

"We just thought that it would be a nice thank you gesture.”

Mr Karim has been the owner of the restaurant for about 9 years.

“It is a family run business” he said.

He runs the takeaway with his wife and son who helped with the cooking of food for NHS workers.
