THE Rotary Club of West Lakeland has donated £1000 to their chosen charity, Age UK West Cumbria despite being forced to suspend fundraising activities due to the Coronavirus

Funds come at time when Age UK West Cumbria is appealing for donations. The charity hopes to raise a £100,000 emergency Covid-19 fund.

A representative of Age UK West Cumbria said: “One of the club members heard our plea for donations on BBC Radio Cumbria, and as a result club president Rob Broad reached out to us to ask if we would like to receive the funds they’d managed to raise early.

This was collected from events that took place before Christmas.”
Age UK have suspended day activities and retail services which are their main source of income.

The representative for Age UK said: “Although the amount is smaller than the club had hoped to donate, it will provide vital support for our charity in a time of financial uncertainty.We are incredibly grateful for their support and kind gesture.”
