A further 555 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died.

This brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 4,494.

Patients were aged between 33 years and 103 years old.

Twenty nine of the 555 patients, aged between 35 and 95 years old, had no known underlying health condition.

Their families have been informed.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England 40
  • London 174
  • Midlands 74
  • North East & Yorkshire 103
  • North West 47
  • South East 81
  • South West 36

In Cumbria, 41 people have died to date.

Figures released by NHS England show that 41 people have now lost their lives in the two hospitals ran by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - which runs the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven. One patient died yesterday and seven on Friday.

Meanwhile, the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust - which operates Furness General Hospital in Barrow - has recorded 59 deaths.

The trust recorded four deaths yesterday and six on Friday.

Across the whole of the UK, including Scotland and Wales, 621 patients have died.

As of 9am 5 April, a total of 195,524 people have been tested of which 47,806 tested positive.

As of 5pm on 4 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 4,934 have sadly died.
