A SUSSEX MP has slammed people who have visited Brighton beach despite several warnings not to.
In a tweet, MP for Lewes Maria Caulfield, who has returned to the front line as a nurse to help combat coronavirus, blasted: “If you are one of the idiots on Brighton seafront right now, don’t bother #ClapForCarers on Thursday.
"You have put NHS lives at risk by your stupid behaviour.”
The Tory MP's strong criticism came after Brighton & Hove City Council told people to avoid the beach.
In a post on Twitter, the council said: “Too many people are on the seafront making social distancing impossible.
“Too many people are using the seafront to meet up with friends.
“We know it’s hard being inside and not seeing friends and family but please don’t visit Brighton and Hove this weekend.
"Stay home.
"Protect the NHS. Save lives.”
Sussex Police and local councils pleaded with residents to stay indoors this weekend despite the warm weather.
