The city council are closing access to car parks at open spaces round Carlisle.

The decision has been made to prevent people gathering in groups and help to encourage social distancing.

Car parks that will be closed included, Hammond’s Pond, access to Stony Holme golf course and Sheepmount Road.

A spokesman for the city council said: “Our parks and open spaces continue to be open and, in most cases, visitors are following social distancing rules.

“However to discourage visitors driving to Hammond’s Pond and also to discourage golf at Stony Holme, the Hammond’s Pond car park and access road to Stony Holme are both in the process of being closed. Pedestrian access will continue to be available at both sites.

“We have previously taken steps to temporarily barrier off the road towards the Sheepmount this is not required as the Sheepmount is closed.”
