CUMBRIAN artist Sarah Tew says the art world has quickly adapted and changed to try and cope with the restrictions due to the coronavirus.

With galleries having closed – and no definite date for reopening – many artists are making more use of digital.

Sarah is originally from Brigham, near Cockermouth, and studied art and design at Carlisle’s Cumbria Institute of the Arts. She is currently based in London, having recently completed an MA in fine art at the Slade School of Fine Art, and had been due to go to New York to study.

“All the galleries have closed so artists have embraced Instagram. There has been an insurgence of affordable, postable art that people can buy,” said Sarah.

“It is work that would probably be a high price in a gallery but now it is getting to a wider public. It makes it a lot more open. Artists are sharing a lot more now. It is encouraging to see it happening instantly. As we get back to normal I things these things will carry on.”

While in Cumbria, Sarah was involved in projects including C-Art which saw artists open their studios to the public.

She sells her own work on her website, which is www.sarahtew.co.uk
