Reports have been received of people using cemeteries as an alternative to parks to get around social distancing measures.
Allerdale Council have had reports of people gathering in groups in cemeteries to avoid the rules put in place by Prime Minister Boris Johnston on Monday evening.
Mr Johnson placed a lockdown on the country.
A spokesman for the council said: "This is not acceptable and could compromise aims of the government's measures to slow the spread of the virus, and could put the workers at risk.
"The Government gave very clear guidance about the reasons that people can leave their homes – visiting a cemetery or crematorium other than for a funeral, and then in limited circumstances is not one of them."
