Fire crews have dealt with an incident in a Cleator Moor flat.

Three fire crews extinguished a fire in a flat above an optician's on the town's high street.

Crews were called to the scene at 11.25am.

A representative for Cumbria Police and Fire said: "It looks as if it started in the sitting room of the flat."

A male and a female were in the flat at the time, they are currently being treated for smoke inhalation with the male also suffering a minor leg injury.

Fire and smoke damage was caused to the flat with some water damage to the optician's.

None of the other properties were affected. An investigation into the incident is set to begin.
