FIREFIGHTERS from two different stations were called to reports of a fire at a school.

Crews from Wigton and Aspatria were called last night when the fire alarm was sounding at The Nelson Thomlinson School, High Street, Wigton.

It is believed fire crews were called because someone had started a fire in their back garden close to the school, and smoke from this had drifted in through a window left slightly ajar, setting off the school's smoke alarm.

A witness who was passing the scene at the time said: "I was out for my hour of exercise when I saw the two engines.

"There is a real stink of smoke in the air but I can't see any fire at the moment so I don't know how serious it is."

No damaged was caused and no one was hurt.
