A Workington man has been jailed for repeatedly flouting court orders.

Billy Joe Blacklock, 24, of Mitchell Avenue, was jailed for eight weeks for failing to turn up for unpaid work.

On Monday, magistrates at the Workington court heard that Blacklock failed to attend Workington and Whitehaven Unpaid Work Depots on January 9, February 20 and February 27 and failing to provide evidence to reasonably excuse his absence within the correct timeframe.

Blacklock had been required to carry out the unpaid work because he had failed to notify police of a change of address, being a relevant offender within the terms of the Sexual Offences Act.

Magistrates felt the jail term was justified because Blacklock persistently failed to comply with the community order and committed further offences while on the order.

He was also handed a 45-day prison sentence, to serve concurrently to the eight weeks, for non-payment of a £1,539.97 fine.
