Despite confusion to some customers, a town centre supermarket has extended its parking limit.

In January, it was announced that Morrisons on Flatt Walks, Whitehaven, had extended its parking limit from two hours to three.

The change came after members of Committed 2 Rock found they didn't have enough time to get their shopping and have a drink in the cafe before their weekly choir rehearsal at the Lowther Club.

Whitehaven Town Councillor Gemma Dinsdale stepped in, and worked hard to get the limit extended between 5pm and 11pm on weekdays, and after 4pm on Sundays.

And although some customers were told by both car park managers Euro Car Parks and Morrisons they were unaware of the change, the supermarket giant has confirmed the change is correct.

A spokesman outlined the time restrictions, saying the two hour limit applies between 7am-5pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and 10am-4pm on Sundays, with no restrictions after these hours.

Commenting at the time of the initial announcement, coun Dinsdale said: "I’d like to thank Morrisons’ fantastic customer service team for the quick response and cooperation with this parking issue.

“They couldn’t have been more supportive and understanding of the issue and the negative impact it was having on our community.”

She added that as well as making it easier for elderly and disabled choir members to access their practice, the new terms have also had a "positive effect on the other community projects in the area."
