A CARLISLE firm, named the in-Cumbria Business Awards Best Family Business of 2019, is celebrating more success.

Financial planners Stan Sherlock Associates has also won the business and community services category in the North West Family Business Awards and been announced as a finalist in the NatWest Local Hero Mortgage Awards 2020.

The firm, based on Lowther Street, is run by Bobby and Emma Sherlock.

Stan Sherlock Associates serves clients from across Cumbria, and Bobby and Emma are the second generation to lead the business, set up by Bobby’s father, Stan, 30 years ago.

It is a true family affair as Bobby’s sister, Kath Crozier, is also actively involved in the business, as company secretary and a senior administrator.

Emma, who is chief operating officer, said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised as a successful family business. We are proud to offer bespoke, practical financial advice.

“Our family values mean we support our clients while managing and protecting their finances to ensure they can spend time with their own families and the people they love, doing the things they love.”

It was a double celebration for the team as office manager Sandra Sproat was nominated in the Employee of the Year category. Sandra has been with the firm for more than 20 years.

Bobby said: “Sandra’s knowledge and skills are essential to the successful running of our business.

“Her calm, efficient expertise ensures our whole team can work efficiently, while her warm and friendly personality ensures our customers feel truly cared for.”

Carlisle’s Story Decorating Group won the property and construction category and Silloth’s Spencer Graham Coaches Ltd picked up the transport and logistics prize.

Carlisle’s Choose Occupational Health was voted as Cumbria’s People’s Choice alongside Penningtons Tea & Coffee as there was a tie-break.

Choose Occupational Health, which recently celebrated its 11th birthday, strives to deliver quality, independent and personalised occupational health services for organisations across Cumbria. Services include absence management, health screening and surveillance and counselling support.

Managing director Sandra Holliday said: “We are very proud to be a family business, and any success that we have achieved is down to the formidable team I have around me.

“We all share the same values and are committed to looking after our people so that we can continue to help others to create happier and healthier workforces.”
