A popular Lake District attraction has been awarded for giving a warm welcome to its customers.
Honister Slate Mine, near Keswick, picked up the VisitEngland 2019 Visitor Attraction Accolade for its outstanding visitor welcome.
The awards are designed to showcase businesses in the VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme that work particularly hard to give people a good day out.
The attraction is the last working slate mine in England and offers tours and climbing and via ferrata experiences.
Jan Wilkinson, co-owner of Honister Slate Mine, said: "We are absolutely over the moon to receive this accolade from VisitBritain for our welcome.
"We work hard to ensure every person who comes through our doors receives the best experience possible whether they are coming to our shop for garden products, to do an adventure activity or simply to enjoy a coffee and cake whilst walking or on a cycle ride.
" It’s a wonderful way to start the 2020 season and we look forward to welcoming visitors looking for fresh air, dramatic views and outdoor adventures across the year."
The awards are given in a number of categories including for the welcome people are given, food and drink they are served, attractions that have a particularly engaging story and the overall visitor experience.
Attractions are awarded the accolades based on the score they gained in their annual Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme assessment by VisitEngland.
