The closing of the Old Fire Station and the Talkin Tarn Tearoom are two of the measures being taken by Carlisle City Council to combat coronavirus.

A whole host of changes are being made to the council's operations, they include:

  • Encouraging residents to contact them by calling 01228 817200 or emailing customerservices@carlisle.gov.uk, rather than visiting the Civic Centre’s customer contact centre.
  • Residents wanting to contact their bereavement services team are advised to call 01228 817390 or email bereavement@carlisle.gov.uk, rather than visiting the Cemetery & Crematorium office. Only visit the office if it is essential.
  • The Carlisle Tourist Information Centre is closing to the public from tomorrow (March 18) until further notice. Contact them by emailing info@discovercarlisle.co.uk.
  • The Talkin Tarn Tearoom is closing from tomorrow (March 18) until further notice. The site remains opens to visitors.
  • The Old Fire Station is closing with immediate effect and is postponing all shows.
  • Suspending kerbside garden waste collections until further notice and no longer taking bulky household waste collection bookings. This allows them to divert resources to other critical services.
  • Supporting staff to work from home.
  • Cancelling all committee meetings.
  • Following recent advice regarding mass gatherings, are in the process of postponing or cancelling council organised events.
  • Continuing to provide services, ensuring they’re doing all they can to support residents and local communities.
  • Working with partners on the response to this emergency, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable.
