Councillors will discuss visiting the site of a planned 24-home development in a West Cumbrian village.

Mr H Tyson is seeking permission from Copeland Council to build the homes in Beckermet.

The proposed site at Midtown Farm measures 1.22 hectares and is surrounded by homes.

The application is at outline stage, which means further details on design of the homes are still unknown.

Access to the plot would be from Hunter Rise.

The proposal is for the homes to be built around a single access road, forming a cul-de-sac.

Planning officers are recommending that the council's planning panel conducts a site visit.

A decision is due to be made on whether to give the visit the go-ahead at a meeting at 2pm today.

Officers said: "This application relates to a major residential development within the existing settlement boundary of Beckermet.

"Based on the scale of the development and the level of local opposition received from the community it is considered appropriate for members to undertake a site visit to understand the site and its context."
