A CHARITY backed by the mayor of Allerdale has received a donation from a Sellafield union. GMB Union Sellafield Branch donated £300 to the chosen charities of Allerdale mayor Hilary Harrington.
The branch deputy convenor Roger Denwood said: "We were more than happy to support the mayor of Allerdale's chosen charities and support the good work they do in the community."
A portion of GMB contributions are given back to the branch each year, with funds then donated to charity.
Councillor Harrington has chosen to support mental health awareness charity We Will of Maryport and the Allerdale Disability Association during her year in office.
We Will is part of the Ewanrigg Local Trust, working to fill a gap in provision for young people's mental health services.
She said: "The donation made by the GMB's Sellafield branch is hugely welcome and I'd like to thank the members for choosing to support my charities. These charities are absolutely vital to the local area and I would encourage other people to support them."
