An attempted robbery took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, just off Botchergate in Carlisle's city centre.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the attempted robbery, which took place at about 4.50 on Saturday morning.
A Cumbria Police spokeswoman explained: "Four men attempted to rob another man in his twenties on St Nicholas Street, Carlisle, close to the junction with Albion Street.
"Anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone with information is asked to call PC 2673 on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting log 215 of February 22."
