MASSIVE disruption has again hit Cumbria as torrential rain batters the region.
Rail lines have closed and roads flooded across the county as the forecasted Atlantic weather system hits north west England - just days after storms Ciara and Dennis hit.
The Environment agency has issued six flood warnings and 20 flood alerts for the county.
Northern rail has said the railway between Workington and Carlisle is blocked because of water on the tracks but alternative road transport is currently in place. The disruption is expected to last beyond noon.
He also said: “Heavy rain, falling on already sodden ground in Cumbria, is causing significant disruption to Northern services in the area.
“Flooding on the line at Workington means services are unable to run between Barrow and Carlisle. Trains are operating between Barrow and Workington, with rail replacement buses carrying customers between Workington, Maryport and Carlisle.
“There is also flooding on the West Coast Mainline at Lambrigg which is likely to have an impact on Northern’s services on the Windermere branch.”
A spokesman for Avanti West Coast has "Due to heavy flooding between Carlisle and Lancaster lines are blocked until further notice. There are rail replacement buses between Preston and Carlisle."
Bus operator Stagecoach has said that "due to flooding we are unable to serve Station Hill Wigton 400 service at the moment sorry for inconvenience caused."
On the roads heavy traffic has been reported on the A596 at Wigton due to surface water.
Localised flooding has been reported on the A69 at Warwick Bridge but is passable with care.
The road at Blennerhasset has been reported as "just passable" due to flooding between East Terrace, Blennerhasset, and the B5299, Baggrow.
Cumbria Roads Watch on Twitter has said that the A6 has closed due to Flooding at Levens Bridge, between Milnthorpe and the A590 at Levens. After the road "become impassable".
A spokesman for Highways England said: "Advice to drivers is to drive to the conditions."
However he said there were no major issues reported on the regions major raods so far.
