Four flood warnings are now in place across Cumbria as rain continues to batter the county.

Warnings are in place for the River Eden in Carlisle, Rickerby Park, Swifts and Stony Holme golf courses; Rivers Greta at Keswick, Keswick Campsite, rugby club and Quinta; River Gowan at Staveley and Ings and River Kent at Staveley and the River Kent at Burneside, Steeles Row and Carling Steps.

The River Eden warning, released by the Environment Agency, says:

  • River levels have risen at the Linstock river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall;
  • Consequently, flooding of property, low lying roads and farmland is expected;
  • Low lying roads, car parks, public spaces and recreational facilities at Rickerby Park, Swifts and Stony Holme golf courses are at risk;
  • Expect river levels to remain high through today (February 20);
  • Avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near local watercourses.

The warning for the Rivers Greta says:

  • River levels have risen at the Keswick Camp Site river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and low lying land is expected;
  • Low lying roads, residential, commercial properties and campsites in Keswick adjacent to the Rivers Greta and Derwent, including Greta Park Rugby Football Ground, Keswick Campsite, Keswick School Sports Field, Keswick Show Field and Playing Field areas;
  • Expect river levels to remain high through today, when they will peak and start to recede;
  • Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

For the River Gowan at Staveley the warning says:

  • River levels have risen at the Staveley Village river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, low lying roads and land is expected;
  • Areas at risk are Ings Mill Caravan Park, Ings Village, areas in Staveley including Windermere Road, Danes Crescent, Beck Nook, Station Road, Main Street, School Lane, Back Lane, Kent Drive, The Banks and Kendal Road;
  • Expect river levels to remain high through today;
  • Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

The warning for the River Kent at Burneside says:

  • River levels have risen at the Bowston river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, low lying land and roads is expected;
  • Properties are expected to be affected immediately adjacent the River Kent in Bridge Street, Steeles Row, Junction Cottages and Carling Steps areas of Burneside Village;
  • Expect river levels to remain high through today;
  • Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

There are also 15 flood alerts in place.
