HOT on the heels of a new survey naming the Lake District as the number one spot for couples, Cumbria’s largest county-wide Wedding Fair is set to showcase exactly why the region is becoming the destination of choice to tie the knot.

Commissioned by Premier Inn UK, a poll of 2,000 people from across the country has just seen the Lake District claim the top spot in a list of forty romantic places to visit.

The organisers of this weekend’s Lake District Wedding Fair say it’s no surprise that more than half of those polled also believe it’s important to visit romantic destinations with a partner to keep the relationship strong.

Nick Hood comments, “As this research shows, there’s no doubt that the Lake District and Cumbria are very popular for a range of romantic breaks, including mini-moons and honeymoons too. We also know that many of the couples who get married here continue to return to the same venue year after year to mark their anniversaries.

“For wedding day celebrations, the scenery speaks for itself; whether it’s a vow renewal with a sea view, a civil ceremony overlooking a lake or a dramatic reception set against stunning mountain scenery. The choices are so diverse.

“Although many wedding venues hold their own individual wedding fairs during the year, this event is unique because it is the only location where prospective brides and grooms can meet with dozens of Cumbrian wedding venues and suppliers under one roof."

This year’s Lake District Wedding Fair will include a ‘Natural Wedding Zone’ to give a helping hand to ever eco-conscious couples looking for greener ways to start their married life.

That’s in addition to a diverse range of exhibitors from across Cumbria, including everything from bridalwear, cakes and flowers to photography, entertainment and specialist vehicle hire.

Admission to the event in the Exhibition Hall at the J36 Rural Auction Centre near Kendal is free.

All visitors should pre-register online to attend. Tickets are valid for the whole weekend.
