FAILING to attend a Police and Criminal Evidence Act interview has landed one woman with a hefty fine.
The prosecution has led Carlisle City Council to remind people that failure to attend these interviews can land them with large penalties if dealt with in their absence.
Danielle Morris of Dowbeck Road, Carlisle was served with a section 108 notice on September 9.
This requested her to attend a PACE interview to enable enforcement officers to investigate a complaint of fly-tipping that had occurred in Priory Road, Carlisle in August 2019.
Despite numerous attempts to engage with Morris she failed to engage with the council.
The bench agreed to award costs of £85, imposed a fine of £440 and awarded £44 to fund victim services.
The total penalty was £569.
A Carlisle City Council spokesman said: "It is important that people attend interviews when requested as this not only assists the enforcement team but enables us to take the appropriate action against offenders where possible.
"These cases again highlight the importance of the action taken against those who fail to engage with us."
