England rugby league coach to share insights

Shaun Wane, who led Wigan Warriors to three Super League Grand Final victories and a World Club Championship success between 2013 and 2018, will provide insights into leadership at an event in Workington.

The Creating Winning Cultures Masterclass will take place at Hunday Manor Country House Hotel on February 27.

It will run between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, and is open to small and medium-sized enterprises in the county.

The event is part of the Cumbria Forum programme, which is managed by the Lancaster University Management School.

Shaun, who left Wigan in 2018, took over as coach of the England national team from Wayne Bennett this month.

He will talk about how his experience can be translated to the world of business.

Ewan Pullan, Lancaster University Management School programme manager for the Cumbria Forum, said: “Shaun know what it takes to get results – as demonstrated by his appointment as the new England coach.

“He has achieved success at the highest levels in his sport – winning the Super League Grand Final three times and the World Club Challenge – and the knowledge and skills he has accumulated during his career are invaluable.

“His experience is not just relevant to the sporting world, but across all fields of business – demonstrating how to assemble and manage a winning team and get the best results possible from the people you work with.

“By implementing some key approaches and methods and ingraining them into everything you do, Shaun will show you how you can create the values to drive improvement, achieve goals and empower your people.

“He is sure to provide many ideas and much inspiration to those who attend, just as he will to the England team in his new role.”

Before becoming a coach, Shaun enjoyed a long playing with Wigan, Leeds Rhino and Workington Town, where he hung up his boots after the 1993/94 season. He was part of the scouting and coaching set-up at Wigan before taking over as head coach in 2011.
