There is hope for Appleby during Storm Dennis, with river levels not expected to hit warning level.

The latest information that Appleby Emergency Response Group received from the Environment Agency is that the river level will peak at 11.15pm tonight at a height of 2.8m with a second peak at 10.30am tomorrow of 3.02m.

Both of these heights are below the flood warning level.

Members from the group have completed sandbagging needed to help protect locations and properties at greatest risk.

They have advised that there will be no volunteers overnight and if anyone requires assistance to contact emergency services.
