A CARLISLE man has been ordered to carry out 40 hours unpaid work after assaulting a woman.

Alan Crilley, of Shadygrove Road, Raffles, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before the city's Rickergate Magistrates Court on February 10.

The 39-year-old assaulted the woman by beating her in Carlisle on October 8 last year.

A community order was made by the court, requiring Crilley to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation, a £90 victim surcharge and a £250 fine.
