A DRINK driver was caught after he crashed his BMW into traffic lights in Carlisle city centre.
Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates' Court heard that Daniel Gardner, 38, crashed as he drove along Lowther Street, Carlisle, on January 21. A breath test confirmed he had 85mcg of alcohol in 100mls of breath.
The legal limit is 35mcg. The defendant admitted drink driving.
John Smith, for Gardner, of Leyland, Lancashire, said the builder had a good reputation. The defendant was fined £400, with £85 costs, and a £40 victim surcharge. District Judge Gerald Chalk also imposed a 22 month driving ban, but offered the drink drivers' rehabilitation course.
