Carlisle is set to see more electric car charging points, with the announcement of a major new investment in the technology.
Carlisle City Council has received funding of more than £200,000 to construct new electric car charging points in the city.
The announcement was made by the council’s deputy leader Gareth Ellis at last week’s budget meeting, in which the Conservative executive’s budget was passed.
“We are spending £204,000 on on street car charging points, fully funded from external grants,” Mr Ellis said.
Mr Ellis added that this was one of several measures designed to make Carlisle a more accessible and environmentally friendly city.
“We want to encourage more cycling, public transport and walking.
“We are making an invest-to-save decision for LED footway lighting, and we’ve already started purchasing electric street sweepers.”
