Youngsters at a Seaton school have raised hundreds of pounds to help those affected by the Australian bushfires.

Seaton Academy pupils held a non-uniform day – celebrating everything about Australia and they raised almost £370 which the school has rounded up to £400.

Teacher, Wendy Durham, said it had been one of their best supported events in a long time.

“It has been one of our best events. It was lovely to see,” said Mrs Durham.

“It was just a really fun day and the children got so much from it, while also raising money for such a good cause.”

All the different year groups looked at various aspects of Australian life.

A didgeridoo was brought into school, much to the delight of the pupils and they also took a close look at boomerangs.

Youngsters did art work on the objects and also studied the Aboriginal culture and their artwork.

Animals from Down Under, like kangaroos and koalas, were also focused on as children compared life in Australia to life in England.
